My New Favorite Abstract

So last night my theoretical plans didn't work out and I had a mini-existential crisis "What am I doing with my life?...Where do I want to get a job?...Will I ever find a job?...What kind of job do I even want?...and... It's another Saturday night and I ain't got nobody." (Which isn't actually true, it was Friday night, and I do actually have somebody).
I was switching between reading Harry Potter en español and looking for jobs online at the time and felt antsy to do something. What to do? Then a light bulb went off.

I'M A PAINTER, duh.

So I grabbed some delicious wine (of the red variety) and started on a new painting.
I had recently told myself that my next painting would be a practice in realism, but after a glass of wine it becomes difficult to focus-- yeah, imagine how long it took to paint My Malbec-- so I decided to just wait until the next next painting to try my hand at realism.
This was the end result of a few glasses of wine, "Of Monsters and Men" Pandora radio station which mysteriously turned into Dubstep "Skrillex" Pandora radio station, and some ideas I was pondering that I wrote at the bottom so you don't have to read a ton of stuff in one shot.

The Inside (20x30)

I actually had a concept in mind while painting this. I thought about all the negative and positive influences that surround us and how we're all inherently good, but we have a lot to stand up against, including our own self-defeating thoughts. I was going to explain the imagery in this, but I'd prefer you make up your own meaning for the imagery. The beauty of abstract work is that it means something different for every single person who looks at it.

Waiting for Paint to Dry

I'm touching up the outer edges of the canvases that will be put in the Fresh Show with some acrylic so it doesn't look like I hold my canvases with hands full of paint (which I do). It's an aspect of displaying paintings that I hardly think about. So I'm waiting for the edges to dry so I can paint more edges! And so I can wire the backs!

Painting edges in a corner of my 'workspace' aka bedroom

In the meantime, I'm waiting for other canvases to dry. This is obviously a well-thought-out method for drying my oil paintings that, along with you, I am also skeptical about:

I am also working on a painting.

This painting will probably look nothing like this in a few hours (20x24)

And I forgot to upload a photo of this one before, it's another Andes painting I was working on. I'm not sure what I think about it. It's definitely colorful, I'll give it that.

"FRESH" show

Here's the flier for the show some of my paintings will be in. It's a great mixture of up-and-coming artists, we'd love to see you there!!

One week until the "Fresh" Show

I just painted Blue Abstract 1 about a half an hour ago. It kind of looks like a rainforest to me.
Energía de los Andes (Energy of the Andes) was inspired by the trip I took to Peru. While I was there, I made a friend from New Zealand who told me the mountains have a certain energy that brings up a bunch of stuff you need to face in your life. I completely believe it, since I experienced something along those lines. I just got back 2 weeks ago, and painted this painting a few days after I landed back in the US with that experience in mind.
Forsythia- there's a Forsythia plant in my neighbor's yard that I can see when I look out my window. I love the vibrant yellow of the flowers, so I just focused on them.
Stalagmites- This is another abstract I did for the sake of the color combination. I loved the greenish yellow against ultramarine.

I'm working on some new paintings to put in the Accent Gallery in Ocean City, New Jersey. They're having a "Fresh" Show for new artists, the opening is 7pm-9pm Saturday April 28th.
Everyone is invited to come! Check out emerging artists!

I've been really into creating paintings that have no recognizable image. I have been creating them based on emotion, flow, and color relationships.

Here's a preview of one of the paintings that might be in the show!

Introduction

Welcome to A Painter's Page! My name is Marci, I am a painter based in the South Jersey area. I work primarily with oils, but have been known to use acrylic when I become impatient with the drying process.
This Page is a new venture in the art process, so any suggestions are welcome!
